October, 2005
Dear ELMLE members and conference participants,
For the past several years, October has been designated Month
of the Young Adolescent (MOYA) by the National Middle School
Association.
The mission of this month to recognize the unique needs and
stage of development of young adolescents as well as an
acknowledgement of their often energetic and enthusiastic
contributions to our schools and society as a whole.
NMSA and ELMLE would like to encourage you to take time out
this October to honor and applaud the young adolescents in
your lives.
How can this be done?
- organize an assembly which
focuses on the contributions of Young Adolescents within
your school or community
- recite a poem during
morning announcements which honor young adolescents
- provide treats at break
time or during advisory - just because...they’re great!
We encourage you to visit the
NMSA website:
www.nmsa.org/moya/moya_2004/index.htm
for more ideas of how you can make this October a month of
recognition for the young adolescents in your lives.
Yours sincerely,
Nancy Remondi
ELMLE President
